What is Lagna?
ज्योतिष लेख
Lagna is the rising sign — the zodiac on the eastern horizon at birth. It turns a list of planets into a house chart.
Overview
Lagna, or the ascendant, is the sign rising in the east when you were born. In a North Indian diamond chart it often sits at the top and becomes the first house.
Because the sky turns, Lagna changes roughly every two hours. That is why two people born on the same day can have very different houses.
Astrologers read the Lagna lord, planets in the first house, and how other houses count from that rising point.
If your birth time is uncertain, treat house-based statements as tentative. The Moon and broader planetary story still have something to say.
A careful reading
Keep this article next to lived experience. Astrology is a symbolic language. It should widen attention, not close a life.
How to use this

FAQ
Only as a guess. Sunrise charts exist, but they are not a substitute for a recorded time.
They answer different questions. Lagna frames the body of the chart; the Moon frames the mind.
