Jyotish is a map, not a courtroom
Vedic astrology — ज्योतिष — is the Indian way of reading the sky: a sidereal zodiac, a Moon that families actually name when they ask “आपकी राशि?”, twenty-seven nakshatras, and a Lagna that turns planets into twelve houses. The old books are long. This page is the doorway.

Sidereal sky, not only a Sun column
Indian Jyotish typically measures signs against the fixed stars — a sidereal zodiac. A newspaper Sun-sign note can still be a gentle prompt for the day. A Janam Kundli is a different object: Lagna, twelve houses, dashas, and the Moon’s nakshatra. If someone at home asks “आपकी राशि?”, they almost always mean the Moon, मेष to मीन.
Western tropical columns and Vedic charts can both be interesting. Mixing them without saying so is how people end up arguing about whether they are “really” a Leo. On this site, rashi is the Indian Moon sign unless we say otherwise.

Five star grahas
Mangal, Budh, Guru, Shukra, Shani — effort, speech, meaning, affection, time. They describe functions. They are not villains you have to buy a stone to defeat.
Rahu & Ketu
The nodes. They show hunger and release. Loud stories gather around them. We keep graha shanti optional; see puja and remedies.
A practical way to begin
Read astrology basics if the four keys are still new. Open your rashi page as weather, not as orders. When you have date, time, and place, generate a Kundli in the app and sit with one house — first or seventh is enough for a first evening.
If a dasha name or a dosha line scares you, pause. Ask a person in chat, or close the phone. Jyotish should not be used as a threat.
