Rashi is the zodiac sign. In Vedic astrology, rashi often means the Moon sign.
Overview
Ask for someone’s rashi and they will usually name the sign of the Moon at birth — Mesh, Vrishabh, Mithun, and so on — not always the Sun sign used in many Western columns.
The twelve rashis are equal 30-degree spans. Vedic practice typically uses the sidereal zodiac, which is why a rashi can differ from a tropical Sun-sign app.
Moon-rashi is popular because the Moon is close to daily mood and because many muhurat and matching methods start there.
